Oats, nutritional properties and benefits
Oats are a cereal with multiple beneficial properties.
One hundred grams of oats give approximately 390 kcal. The carbohydrate content is approximately 66 g, with ten grams of fiber. Among all cereals, it is the richest in vegetable proteins (17 g out of 100 compared to 15 g for spelled and 13/14 g for durum wheat). Fats are mostly unsaturated such as oleic and linoleic acid, with anti-inflammatory action and help reduce cholesterol levels in the blood, promoting cardiac and brain activity.
The high fiber content promotes digestion and helps prevent situations of intestinal irregularity, inflammatory states, sleep disorders and irritability. Unlike other cereals, oats contain more soluble fiber than insoluble fibre: it is rich in beta-glucans (they help you stay fit and reduce blood cholesterol levels), inulin and fructans.
It is an excellent source of B vitamins, vitamins A, vitamins E and vitamins D, essential for the correct functioning of the body and for maintaining psycho-physical balance. Furthermore, mineral salts such as calcium, iron and zinc play a fundamental role in stimulating the immune system, controlling blood pressure and hypertensive states.
The composition of oats (slowly absorbed complex carbohydrates, proteins and soluble fibre) makes this cereal a food with a low glycemic index and, in particular, its richness in soluble fiber and antioxidant substances (tocopherols and polyphenols) makes it a FOOD FUNCTIONAL capable of controlling body weight, lowering cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure.
